As a consultant, I believe the biggest obstacle is selling yourself. When you are heavily client facing, you should focus on building foundation blocks, being name recognition. Strong IT skills are keen, but being customer focused is top billing. 1. Understanding client pain points during current state review 2. Keeping communication channels open 3. Being adaptable to change while maintaining the integrity of the project objectives Methodology and Technology are taught, professionalism and people skills are inherent.
